How to enrol?

U3A application forms for long-term courses (at least 1 year long) can be filled in since the beginning of May until the end of June in the U3A office at Komenského nám. 2 or online via the MU Shopping Centre. Application forms can be found in the information about individual courses.

U3A application forms for short-term courses can be filled in only online; the electronic link can be found in the section with information about the particular course.

What does a lesson look like?

All U3A courses are taught in the Czech language.

Each lesson is about 90 minutes long and usually takes place in a lecture hall. The time and place can be found in the specific course information.

Who is a U3A participant?

As a U3A participant is considered a person, who studies one of these courses during the academic year:

  • General course
  • Art, Patrons and Art Style in History
  • Cultural Heritage and Historic Preservation in Moravia
  • University of the Third Age and the Moravian Museum
  • Courses for U3A Graduates
  • Medieval Etudes III

A person who attends only short-term courses (either themed, language or PE) is not considered a U3A participant.

Do I have to pay for the courses?

In the case of long-term courses, there is an enrolment fee of CZK 800 for one course and one academic year. For the graduate course, the enrolment fee is CZK 400 for one area and CZK 250 for another.

Short-term courses are paid for separately and the enrolment fee depends on the number and length of each lecture. More detailed information can be found in the course description.

Courses can be paid for by bank transfer. No later than one week after enrolment, you will get an e-mail from the MU Shopping Centre (obchod@mail.muni.cz) with an invoice and payment details attached. Bank transfer should be made as soon as possible.

It is also possible to pay in cash or by card in our office (Komenského nám. 2).

 

What are the admission conditions?

Anyone who has reached the state pension age and has a full secondary education with a school-leaving examination may become a participant in the U3A programme.

What if I don’t meet the admission conditions?

Admissions requirements may be waived by the Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs. The request needs to be made via the U3A MU office, so please contact us in this case.

When can I enrol?

Is attendance compulsory?

There is a compulsory minimum attendance of 75 % for the Long-term courses so as to obtain the graduating certificate.

What is the structure of U3A education?

Long-term courses take place from September/October until May/June usually once in 14 days mostly in the form of lectures. School vacations do not apply. A lecture equals 2 lessons, i.e. 90 minutes without interruption.

Short-term courses take place in the spring or autumn semesters. Classes take place usually once a week, the duration of particular lectures and dates can be found in the course offer.

Is it possible to attend more long-term courses at the same time?

Certainly, the number of courses depends only on the U3A participant; it is not limited.

Can I continue in study after completing the long-term course?

A course for graduates is intended for students of multi-year U3A courses who received a certificate of course completion at the graduation ceremony. The graduate course covers 4 areas, distinguished by a thematic focus. These are the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and health sciences. Graduates can choose one area or expand their knowledge in multiple areas.

Is it possible to get some news from the U3A by e-mail?

You can subscribe to the news via https://u3v.muni.cz/en/#newsletter. After entering the e-mail address and agreeing to the processing of personal data, you need to confirm the e-mail address via an e-mail message, after which you will start getting news from the U3A MU.
